Tax Assistance for Low Income Households Available through LINC this Spring

Even though it's just the beginning of the year, before you know it April 15th will be upon us. Soon the W-2s will be arriving, the tax forms will be calling and many of us will be overwhelmed.

To help those struggling with their finances and their taxes this year LINC Houston is getting ready to be one of the 16 Free Neighborhood Tax Centers in Houston as part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) program

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low to moderate income (generally, $50,000 and below) households who are not able to prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country including with LINC.

VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing. To locate the nearest VITA site, call 1-800-906-9887 or visit this VITA link.

This partnership With Neighborhood Tax Centers aims to assist 1000 at each center and LINC is sure to reach this goal.

The VITA programming will begin at LINC Houston on Thursday January 19th. LINC will have eight stations set up for tax assistance at its Greenspoint Mission Center (161 West Rd., Houston, TX 77037) on the side of the building that faces Sweetwater road, in one of the classrooms downstairs.
